Sacred Valley
The Sacred Valley of the Incas is an extensive valley located in the Peruvian Andes, which develops along the Vilcanota–Urubamba River. It is one of the most important destinations in South America. It houses beautiful traditional villages settled since the colonial era such as the community of Maras. There the Incas built ancient citadel like Pisac, Ollantaytambo, the circular terraces of Moray and Chinchero. Today, all these places are very appealing tourist attractions for visitors, before or after a visit to Machu Picchu. It was highly appreciated by the ancient Inca Empire due to its special geographical and climatic qualities, becoming one of its main production points for the richness of its lands. In fact, it is the place where Peru’s best corn grain is produced. The Sacred Valley has wonderful landscapes, inhabited by Andean communities that preserve ancestral customs and traditions, an example of Cusco’s living culture.
